Audience Research
Audience research is conducted on specific audience segments to gather information about their attitude, knowledge, behaviour, interests and preferences. These segments may be based on age, gender, race, ethnicity or family income. Audience research is done so that the producer has a better idea of what people will want to see.
Who can do audience research?
Anyone can do audience research in order to find out information about people, however usually audience research is carried out by someone or a group of people who are trying to sell something. Audience research will enable them to make whatever they are selling more attractive to people as they may have adapted their product to what the audience wants, and they'd be able to do this because of the information they gathered from the audience research.
When should audience research be done?
Audience research should be carried out before creating something that is going to be sold. This is because, using a business as an example, you may create a product that is disliked by people so it won't be sold that much. Doing audience research before making the product will allow you to make the product whilst knowing what the target audience wants and therefore your product will have a lot more chance of selling.
Why should audience research be completed?
Audience research should be completed so that you are able to find out information about what people want in order to have a higher chance of selling what you are trying to sell, e.g a film. Audience research allows you to have an understanding of what your target audience want and this gives you the opportunity to create your product the way they want it.
